The “M.” stands for something
Change is in the air.
I am changing the name of my business — a name that has become pretty well recognized and respected in this business over the last ten or so years.
Why?
I don’t really have a great answer for that. I could spin some marketing fluff about brand evolution and whatnot. But this isn’t that deliberate. Honestly, the change is just something that has been living rent-free in my brain for the past year or so and I don’t really have a solid reason to do it aside from just wanting to. “Why not?” is something that I often challenge others with in a similar situation. So why not.
Jamey M. Photography began in earnest in 2011. I admit, at that time, I was far more interested in just taking photos than I was building a business and a brand. I mean, just behold my first attempt at a logo.
I’ve grown a lot since then, as business and as a person. Jamey M. was my nickname in my early school years and has a charming story behind it, but the more I have looked at the name “Jamey M. Photography” in recent years, the more I think “the M. stands for something.”
But what about my “reputation”? I have spent more than ten years growing this business and my brand. I have earned a reputation for not only delivering exceptional photography, but also for matching that quality with an exceptional client experience. I come highly recognized and reviewed, and my business is usually found near the top of any references to photography in my city. I stand for something. That has come as the result of a hell of a lot of hard work. A change in name is, admittedly, somewhat of a risk. Well, my instincts say that is a risk worth taking. I usually trust my instincts, as they rarely lead me astray.
So what does the M. stand for? The M. stands for Marcel, my middle name. Marcel is a name that only in recent years have I come to fully embrace, previously often only abbreviated if not omitted entirely. I have come to love Marcel as much as I do Jamey, so why should Marcel play second fiddle? Let’s give it a front row seat.
From now on — and hopefully for another ten or more unforgettable years of having the great honour of being your photographer — I am Jamey Marcel Photography. Because the M. stands for something. And so do I.
