A fresh new start
Say hello to the new jameymphoto.ca!
To first time visitors to my website, hello! If you're an old friend, then hello again!
If you're familiar with me and my photography, then you surely noticed that this website has received a top-to-bottom makeover. And isn't it just wonderful? If you're new to jameymphoto.ca, then you might think that some sections of this site — in particular this blog and the portfolio sections — feel a little bit bare.
I am by no means new to photography. I have been a professional wedding and lifestyle photographer for more than five years, and was an amateur enthusiast long before that. Since becoming a professional, I have had the privilege of photographing more than sixty wedding days, not to mention hundreds of engagement, family, maternity, and couples sessions.
I have grown by leaps and bounds as a photographer. And while I feel I have delivered quality work right from the start, I still look back each year on my photos from the previous year and beyond and marvel at how much my photography has improved. And so it should be. If a time comes when I feel that I have stopped learning and growing in my work, then I will likely call it a career. Having said that, I don't see that ever happening. I never stop studying. And my passion to improve never ceases.
My website, on the other hand, hasn't grown along with me. It was originally launched in 2011. And while I have been very active in sharing my work on other platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, and Instagram, my website was admittedly neglected, and no more so than in the past two years.
I realized that needed to change. And I had a decision to make. Do I retain all of my prior content? Or do I start anew. It wasn't a decision I took lightly. Retaining my past blog posts and photo portfolios would mean significantly less work. However, those photos and posts were rather dated, and don't present my best work. Starting anew, on the other hand, would give me an opportunity to curate and present my most impressive photos over my professional career for my new site. Doing so, however, was a daunting task.
I rarely take the path of least resistance. I am none afraid of hard work if the reward is worth the effort. And I also strongly follow my intuition, and a fresh new start just felt so right.
So here I am. I have a brand new website, one that is clean, simple, beautiful and usable on any platform. Seriously, try viewing this site on your mobile, tablet, laptop, or desktop. It just works. But for now, it is a little light on content as I work on curating and building my portfolios and until I really fire up this blog.
So follow along. I will be a busy bee over the next few months. Come on by now and then and see how this site is growing. And how I continue to grow. Until then...
